Day 2
Trip day 2
Last night when I arrived I was told by the front desk that I was going to have my own room that night, before I began sharing a room with someone for my tour. I presumed I would then be moving rooms today. However I was awoken at 7am by a blonde girl standing near the foot of my bed in what I thought was my hotel room, with a giant backpack on. So apparently this was now a shared room.
It actually turned out very well for me because seeing as the tour didn't start until tonight, I don't know what I would've done all day by myself. Me and Molly from London, England explored near the ocean in the of the cultural district of barranca, which I believe is a district of Lima.
It seems vegetarian here will prove to be quite difficult. Although, repeating sin carne and pointing at things has gotten me surprisingly far. I ordered a vegetable "tortilla" for lunch, which turned out to be an omelette, which was fine by me.
I was unaware Lima was such a big city, around 9 million people. The district I am in has felt very safe, and myself and molly, who is equally a sheltered "white girl" have fared quite well. Besides cat calling from cars on the highway, we haven't had any trouble.
as usual, I've had a lot of fun telling people about the winterpeg struggle and walking to school in -40 weather, as well as learning a bit about a few other countries. I am one of 2 Canadians in my group of 18. The other a man from Edmonton, he helped me explain when people started asking how our cars still run in the winter and I really didn't know how it worked. There are about 5 from germany, 5 from Australia, 3 from england and and a few others. I've found myself thinking in a british accent. I've also informed my roomate Molly she sounds like the queen of england.
Tomorrow's a 4 hour bus ride to Paracas and I am excited for a smaller town feel.
